Support that nurtures both children and their caregivers.

At Rural Care Co., we understand that caregiving is both meaningful and demanding. Our Respite Care Program offers families the opportunity to rest, recharge, and focus on other needs while their child receives compassionate, attentive care in a peaceful, home environment.

Families are welcome to book a stay for their child at our Red Deer County location for up to 7 days at a time. During their stay, children experience the calming rhythm of country life — fresh air, gentle farm animals, and the healing connection to nature and home.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. Our primary focus is providing in-home palliative and supportive care where comfort, familiarity, and family connection can be prioritized.
However, if hospital-based support is needed — whether planned or unexpected — we collaborate closely with medical teams to ensure continuity, compassion, and clear communication for families.

  • Homecare provides essential services, but it often has limitations in availability, continuity, and time. Rural Care Co. fills the gaps by offering personalized, consistent, relationship-based care.
We collaborate with homecare, hospice, and other services to ensure families never fall through the cracks — helping you access the right support at the right time.

  • Yes. Most personal benefit plans will cover in-home nursing care, including postpartum nursing visits. We can direct bill Alberta Blue Cross and Veterans Affairs, and we’re happy to help families understand their coverage and explore available funding options.

  • As a private company, Rural Care Co. works with clients and families to provide care that matches their financial abilities. We direct bill to Alberta Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs, and can work with clients to access additional funding within the province.

  • Rural Care Co. offers care for all ages and stages. We have staff who are experienced in offering newborn care, childcare, and aging individuals. We have a team of caregivers that are experienced and passionate about caring for those needing respite and end of life care to paediatrics, geriatrics, and everyone in between.

  • Rural Care Co. provides care across Central Alberta, employing caregivers from many different communities. Our vision is to support clients, families, and communities through the transition from life to death; therefore, we want caregivers to serve those within the communities in which they live. We have provided care for the folks in Rocky Mountain House, Sylvan Lake, Eckville, Pinelake, Innisfail, Red Deer, Olds, Didsbury, Three Hills, and Sundre.

  • At Rural Care Co. we care for individuals AND their families. "Palliative" includes anyone who has a diagnosis that will affect their anticipated life span. For some, this diagnosis comes well in advance of the End of Life, and can bring many challenges for the caregiver and client. We offer respite care so that the caregiver can take time to care for themselves or leave the home with peace of mind their loved one is in good hands.

For our pediatric respite, we offer a respite bed in the home of our Founder. As a Registered Nurse, she designed her home to be wheelchair accessible and created space for children with medical needs to be cared for within the central zone.
