Frequently Asked Questions
Birth doula support at Rural Care Co. is primarily offered for families planning to birth under the care of a Midwife, with a preference for home birth settings where continuity, comfort, and physiological birth are central. However, we understand that some births do take place in hospital, whether planned or as needed. In those situations, I am happy to provide support within hospital settings under the care of a Midwife.
Yes. Most personal benefit plans will cover in-home nursing care, including postpartum nursing visits. We can direct bill Alberta Blue Cross and Veterans Affairs, and we’re happy to help families understand their coverage and explore available funding options.
As a private company, Rural Care Co. works with clients and families to provide care that matches their financial abilities. We direct bill to Alberta Blue Cross, Veterans Affairs, and can work with clients to access additional funding within the province.
Within Family Bearing, we care for families from pregnancy through early childhood — including birth doula support, postpartum nursing, newborn care, and nannying/childcare services.

Rural Care Co. provides care across Central Alberta, employing caregivers from many different communities. Our vision is to support clients, families, and communities through the transition from life to death; therefore, we want caregivers to serve those within the communities in which they live.
